The ISO Navigator™ database hyperlinks the ISO 9000:2005 principles and the ISO 9001:2008 requirements; and explains them in plain English with practical guidance.
This guidance has been superseded by ISO 9001:2015 Clause 4.3 Determining the Scope of the QMS. If you want to see a comparison matrix that correlates the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 to the revised requirements of ISO 9001:2015, please click here to begin comparing.
Our range of ISO 9001:2015 quality manuals and integrated manual templates cover the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, and offer an easy way to implement and document your organization's quality management system or integrated management system.
ISO 9001:2008: Quality manual 4.2.2 (superseded)
The ISO 9001 quality manual is the cornerstone of your organization’s quality management system. It manifests and communicates top management’s commitment to providing and operating an effective quality management system.
The quality manual template should be documented specifically to the organization’s processes. The documented procedures established for the quality management system must be included or cross-referenced in the quality manual.
Like any high level document, the quality manual must be written in such a way that it provides employees, customers, auditors and other interested parties with a sound overview of how your organization satisfies customer requirements.
People throughout your organization will refer to it when they want to see the big picture of the system, or what policies have been established. Ensure that your quality manual covers:
- Defines the scope of your QMS
- Provides reasons for any exclusions
- Documents and references operational procedures
- Describes how core organizational processes interact
Looking for help with your quality manual control process? Our quality manual template provides a great foundation for establishing, implementing and documenting the six mandatory procedures that are required by the standard.
