8.2.4 Changes to Requirements for Products and Services

|

You should seek and record evidence that, whenever product or service requirements change, your organization updates all the relevant documented information and tells the relevant interested parties about the change. These may be people inside the organization (sales, planning, production, design, service delivery) or outside it (the customer, external providers and subcontractors).

What changed in ISO 9001:2026: the 2015 edition required relevant persons to be made aware of changed requirements. The 2026 edition requires the changes to be communicated to the relevant interested parties, which widens the audience beyond your own staff to anyone affected, such as suppliers, subcontractors or the customer. The requirement to amend the relevant documented information is unchanged.

If customer requirements have changed, all related documents must be amended and everyone affected must be informed. If you need a procedure and forms to help control essential customer requirements, click here.

Define your organization’s arrangements for amending documented information and communicating changed requirements, e.g. updated contract review records, amended orders/contracts, memos, change notices, quality plans and meeting minutes, together with how and when relevant interested parties are told about the change.
