6.2 Quality objectives and planning to achieve them

|

An effectively implemented management system aligns the quality policy with strategic and management system objectives and provides the framework upon which to translate these objectives into functional targets. Establish quality objectives and targets at the relevant functions, levels and processes within the organization, and make the objectives available as documented information.

The objectives and targets establish an important link between the quality policy and the plans or programmes used to achieve them. The objectives must be consistent with the quality policy, measurable, relevant to the conformity of products and services and to enhancing customer satisfaction, and supported by plans that state what will be done, with what resources, by whom, by when and how the results will be evaluated.

What changed in ISO 9001:2026: the requirements are unchanged in substance. The list in Clause 6.2.1 has been re-lettered a)–h), with the item about conformity of products and services and customer satisfaction now last, and objectives are now required to be “available as documented information”. Clause 6.2.2 is unchanged.
