Objectives and indicators procedure
Management system procedures and forms
Introduction and purpose

The objectives and indicators procedure aims to establish how your organization can establish, communicate, and monitor the achievement of its objectives, targets, indicators, and programmes consistent with the scope of the management system’s policy.
When establishing the management system and planning for change, ensure that risks to achieving the process’s objectives have been identified and that the objectives are suitably cascaded throughout your organization.
Application and scope
This objectives and indicators procedure has been developed to assist in meeting the requirements of Clause 6.2 of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 - Objectives and planning to achieve them.
The scope of the objectives and indicators procedure applies to the planning of an organization’s management system to ensure that the objectives and targets are consistent with the stated management system policy commitments and intended outcomes.
The objectives and indicators procedure defines the responsibilities and time frames for establishing objectives, targets, indicators, and programmes in conformance with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001.
The objectives and indicators procedure includes two essential form templates referenced from the procedure, supplied in .docx format that can be retained as hard or soft copies.
Objectives and KPI register
Your organization’s strategic direction must be considered as an input to the management system’s policy and objectives. Use the aspirational statements from your policy and link them to the related objective(s). Management system objectives help to translate organizational purpose (e.g., context and policy) into actionable elements that can be managed and monitored.
Evaluate the achievement of objectives and KPIs by comparing performance against established targets or expectations during management reviews, functional reviews, process reviews, departmental reviews, personal development reviews (appraisals), and team meetings.
Objectives management programme
Documented information on objectives typically includes a description or matrix of the objectives and corresponding means and timeframe to achieve them. Use the objectives management programme to capture how each management system objective will be achieved by assigning a management programme template to each objective. Setting objectives and targets should involve people from the relevant functional area(s).
