ISO 9001 Training, awareness, competence 6.2

6.2.1    General

ISO 9001:2000 requires that personnel performing work affecting product quality must be competent, based on their education, training, skills and previous experience.

Competent = personnel are able to perform their tasks with minimum supervision.

6.2.2    Competence, awareness & training

>   decide the necessary skills and competences

>   provide training

>   evaluate the effectiveness of the training

Staff are trained to improve their performance.  Comparing existing performance to post-training performance is a simple way of assessing training effectiveness – just like the before and after photos in “banish grey hair” commercials.

A common training template is to grade performance in terms of:

"Shown" - the person has received instruction,
"Competent" - the person performs satisfactorily,
"Able" - extremely competent and able to train others.

>   maintain training records

>   training includes: personnel must also be aware of the relevance and importance of their activities

>    and how they contribute to the attainment of quality objectives.
